The use of plants, aromas and natural ingredients for healing and improving health dates back thousands of years.

In all but the last fifty years or so, humans have relied almost entirely on plants to treat all manner of illnesses, from minor problems to life-threatening diseases.

Herbs work with the body’s own physiological processes. The herbs used in our products are all organic. We infuse them in oil to allow the active fat-soluble ingredients to be extracted. This is called ‘macerating’, and creates what is known as a ‘fixed oil’.

Fixed oils are typically made with herbs that have wound-healing properties. An example of one such herb, used in our Antiseptic Ointment, is Plantain (Plantago Major), which supports tissue repair. Another popular herb used is Marigold (Calendula officinalis), which possesses one of nature’s most healing, skin-soothing properties.

Essential oils originate from various parts of a plant, including the seeds, bark, root, leaves, flowers, wood, balsam and resin. Each oil possesses it’s own individual unique aroma and healing properties. One example of this is Lemongrass, which has a very distinct lemon aroma. This particular oil is extremely beneficial in alleviating muscular pain, which is why it is used in our Muscular Pain Bath Salts and our Pain Relief Ointment. It also works efficiently as an insect repellent. Hence, we use it in our Insect Repellent Spray.

Essential oils enter the body via the skin and the nose. They enter and leave the body efficiently, leaving no toxins behind. Because essential oils are highly concentrated, they need to be diluted using ‘carrier’ or ‘base’ oils. Natural Blends uses ‘cold-pressed’ vegetable oils, which means that they have not been processed with a chemical agent.

Carrier oils limit evaporation of the essential oil and speed absorption into the skin. They contain excellent skin conditioning and nourishing properties, and are rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins. The most luxurious of all the carrier oils is Jojoba, which gives a satin-smooth finish and feel to the skin. This particular oil is used in all our massage/ bath oils.

We use Beeswax to give a thick consistency to our ointments. Beeswax cannot be absorbed, and therefore creates a protective barrier for the skin and lips, thereby retaining moisture in those areas.

In our moisturisers and lip balms you will find Cocoa butter, Avocado butter and Mango butter. These contain excellent moisturising and lubricating properties. Used in skin-care, they give softness, nourishment and protection.

Aloe Vera Gel has been used topically for thousands of years to treat wounds, skin infections, burns and numerous other dermatological conditions. This is why it is used in our Problem Skin Ointment as well as our Lavender Ointment.

Our Bath Salts range is made using 100% pure Dead Sea Salts. These salts have wonderful therapeutic properties. They can alleviate dry and flaky skin disorders, help improve and soften the skin, relieve aching joints and muscular pain, refresh, relax, soothe and produce a feeling of well-being. The minerals they contain attract and retain moisture helping to maintain a healthy complexion.
